SARATOGA SPRINGS – Prestwick Chase at Saratoga, the region’s premier Independent Senior Living Community, is seeking Cardboard and Duct Tape Sled builders for races to be held Saturday, Feb. 4 during WinterFest 2012.
WinterFest will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on Feb. 4 on the front lawns of Prestwick Chase, 100 Saratoga Blvd. There will be no charge for attendance. There are no entry fees for sled contestants.
The afternoon will feature music by Sonny & Perley as well as: Dayrl Baldwin of Balloon Extravaganzas; face painting by Peggy Were of About Face; Caricature Sketch Artists Rich Conley and Phil Singer; an Ice Sculpture by Charlie Jones and Julie Carson’s Horse Drawn Wagon Rides.
Contestants in the Cardboard and Duct Tape Sled Races will vie for prizes in three age categories: Youth (Ages 6-12), Teens (13-18) and Open (19 and older). Two or more sleds may race in a heat. Sleds will be timed and winners in each category will be determined by the time needed to reach the finish line.
Sleds must be constructed of regular cardboard, duct tape, and paint. No plastic, wood, glue, industrial adhesives or staples. Wax is permitted on the bottom of the sled. Designs should be family friendly and costumed team members are encouraged.
Teams will consist of no more than three members with one member in the sled and the other(s) pushing or pulling from start to finish.
Prizes For: Best Design, People’s Choice, Best Costumes and Fastest Sled in each category.
